About SASFS

ROUND THREE NOW OPEN! Māori and Pasifika Filmmakers is accepting submissions.

What is this?

A second-chance showcase for short films from Hamilton-based filmmakers, providing a venue for our many talented filmmakers to revive existing films and share them with the public.

How does it work?

Each submission round will be open for a month, during which filmmakers can submit their entries for review and selection. Four films will be selected and showcased at one of four monthly events, open to the public for a gold coin donation. At the screening, filmmakers and audience members will have a chance to meet-and-greet and do some Q&A, and the audience will vote privately on their favourite film of the day.

At the end of the series, a fifth and final showcase will feature the audience favourite from each month, and the gold coin donations will be split evenly (five ways) between the filmmakers.

Why are we doing this?

Each event is intended not just to connect filmmakers and audience, but also give filmmakers a chance to network with one another and talk about their craft. Ideally, we’ll be able to bring in guest emcees or visiting industry professionals that will also provide local filmmakers with the opportunity to have their work seen and receive feedback.

Additionally, the audience will benefit from seeing the quality and range of local filmmakers. The programs themselves will be designed to function both as a souvenir and an interactive guide, so the public can remember not just what they saw, but what they thought about it and what they learned from the filmmakers after.

How can I participate?

If you want to help with organisation, selection, or promotion, shoot an e-mail to sasfs.tron at gmail dot com. Want to submit? Check out the round requirements at our Submissions page.
